Double promotion is still on the cards

Bourne Deeping Dragons need to win both of their final games to be sure of promotion after slipping up against Pelicans on Saturday .

The Dragons were held to a 2-2 draw despite sending a strong team to King’s Lynn.

In the first half they dominated possession but were unable to take any of their chances and Pelicans took the lead with a breakaway goal against the run of play.

Bourne Deeping levelled with a clever reverse stick finish from captain Alex Glover.

They continued to have the majority of possession in the second half but again failed to convert their chances.

With five minutes on the clock, Bourne Deeping broke and Nick Brocklehurst was on the back post to put the ball in the back of the net and take the lead for the first time.

But with 30 seconds left, Pelicans came forward and scrambled the ball into the back of the net to make the scores level.

Bourne Deeping who will look to improve against local rivals Peterborough tomorrow.

Bourne Deeping’s 2nd team are just one point away from promotion after beating City of Peterborough 7ths 1-0.

The cheer at the final whistle reflected just how hard they had to work for three vital points.

Shane Carlton was once again the Dragons’ saviour. It looked like he had blown a gilt edged chance when one-on-one with the keeper but he kept his head to smash the ball home with a reverse stick finish to add to an impressive collection this season.

At the other end, Tim Beaver had to be on his toes as Peterborough forced a number of short corners, but the defence held firm.
