Bourne Deeping Ladies 1st team were left disappointed on Saturday as they let their lead over Ely slip late in the game to draw 4-4 at Arthur Mellows.

The Dragons Ladies started off well, producing quick ball thanks to their pace and excellent passing and were awarded a penalty corner within the first five minutes.

The ball was injected to Emily Murray who slapped the ball towards the spot where Laura Tompson-Wright got a touch to it and deflected it into the goal.

Bourne Deeping then took their eye off the ball and allowed Ely to slot a couple of goals past the keeper which put them ahead at half time.

The second half saw the home team having more possession and moving the ball better through their midfield, who worked tirelessly always driving forward.

Izzie Oakley received the ball and worked her magic to score Bourne Deeping’s second goal. Dragons continued to fight back and with some excellent linking up between defence and midfield, the ball travelled into the D where Carol Murray got a touch to it and found the back of the net.

Ely once again managed to get behind the home defence to equalize. The tireless running from forward player Jan Havemann found her scrabbling with the defence to gain control of the ball and slip it past the keeper. With four minutes to go the Dragons were in the lead and should of slowed the game down and kept possession of the ball, but not all the Dragons players were on the same page and the ball was lost and Ely took full advantage and drove the ball into the back of the net.

The final whistle went ending with a draw and a disappointed Bourne Deeping side. Player of the match went to Becky Allam for her endless running, defending, attacking and all round excellent play.
