Bourne Deeping Dragons roared to back-to-back victories, beating two of their closest rivals to claim second spot last weekend.
BDHC beat Cambridge City 3rd Xi 3-2 on Saturday and followed that with a 4-0 victory against the Cambridge Univerity’s third team in the East Hockey Leagues 2N division.
The first of two games was against the City side, who were second at the start of play.
The first half was a tense affair with both sides having opportunities to score, but both denied by solid defensive work and goalkeeping.
Just before the interval, City took the lead with an easy finish following a defensive error but the Dragons came out fighting in the second half and it was not long before Nick Brocklehurst levelled the scores.
City restored their advantage with a tip in at the back post. But again the home side rallied.
Henry Winfield-Chislett equalised with a moment of individual brilliance, single-handedly splitting the defence and threading the ball between the keepers legs.
Bourne Deeping pushed forward and with little time remaining won a short corner. The initial shot bouncing back off the keeper but Phil Arnold pounced on the loose ball and slam it into the roof of the net to score the winner.

On Sunday Bourne Deeping beat the fourth-placed university side 4-0.
They dominated the first 15 minutes with Brocklehurst opening the scoring with a comfortable back post finish.
As half time approached, the Dragons claimed their second goal with a well worked short corner routine that saw captain Glover tip the ball into the roof of the net.
The second half continued in much the same vein with both sides attacking but it was again BDHC who took their chances and secured the win with two further goals, another nutmeg for Winfield-Chislett and a deflected drag flick from Chris Clarkson.

The Dragons’ 2nd XI lost by the odd goal in five against St Ives 2nd XI.
BDHC never get going in this crucial top-of-the-table clash between first placed BDHC and 3rd placed St Ives.
Ash Brown scored a hat-trick to bring the Dragons’ 14 game unbeaten run to an end.
The Dragons were two down at the break but began to claw their way back into the game in the second half .
An early strike from a Shane Carlton short corner gave them some belief.
The Dragons continued to build the pressure but a smart ball into the Dragons D was swept home by Brown to complete his hat-trick and restore St Ives’ three goal lead.
With time ticking away BDHC scored from a Russ Seton short corner but they could not level.
