Rutland Ladies 1st 5 City of Peterborough 3rd 2

AFTER an extended Christmas break, due to the icy weather, Rutland Ladies returned to action with a cup win against City of Peterborough on Saturday.

Prior to the match, Rutland held two training sessions, which proved vital after the long break.

These training sessions ensured that Rutland were playing good, exciting hockey right from the first whistle.

Rutland had a majority of the possession and looked like scoring every time they attacked with Ellie Ricketts scoring a hat-trick alongside goals from Anne Pollock and Harriet Crennell.

The defence was also in excellent form with Jo Crombie stopping any right-sided attacks and Katie Richardson defending and distributing excellently.

Only silly mistakes and excellent keeping prevented Rutland from running away with the game, but Rutland did go in at half time with a 3 - 0 lead.

The second half was tougher as Rutland tired, leading to more errors and ultimately two goals from Peterborough.

However, Rutland showed their strength in character and came back with two more goals, to put the game beyond all doubt.

Rutland ladies: Ellie Ricketts, Harriet Crenell, Anne Pollock, Dom Lammie, Jo Crombie, Katie Richardson, Rachel Richardson, Sarah Sissins, Kim Cooil, Aimee Blay, Lucy Ginn.
