Deeping St James AC finally held their Severals Fishery Cup at the fourth attempt on the River Welland at Deeping Roadside as the river has finally returned to normal levels and reasonable colour.

The first hour of the match saw many anglers catching decent roach but with the wind picking up in strength, the fishing became much harder.

Luckily for match winner Ray Torrington, he managed to catch throughout the match on breadpunch over liquidised bread, but with a much smaller stamp of fish and finished with 75 roach for 7lb 10oz from peg 23.

In second place was Mike Smith on peg 19 with 6lb 5oz of quality roach taken on a large piece of breadpunch most of which were taken in the first hour. Third was Foz Foster on peg 14 with 4lb 14 oz pushing Steve Cox into fourth place with 4lb 13oz from peg 24.

Anglian Water’s fisheries will open for the new season from Friday.

Ravensthorpe opens first on Friday, Pitsford Water on Saturday, Grafham Water on March 8 and Rutland Water on March 15.

Adrian Muggleton of Gretton won the draw for a Gold Season ticket from last season’s catch returns.

Adrian can now fish the 2014 season for free.

For those without a golden ticket a choice of six season permits starting at £230 and valid at all four of Anglia Water’s fisheries are available.
