BOURNE Wheeler Maddie Gammons had the best race of her debut season at the ninth round of the Lincolnshire Cyclocross league at Nettleham at the weekend.

With the top three riders from the club not competing in the U14 race, the pressure was really on the rest of the young team to continue the success that the more established riders have had throughout the year.

Showing experience beyond her years, 12-year-old Maddie stuck to her task and despite not having the best start she battled through the field to finish the first girl, more than two minutes ahead of her closest rival.

Backing her up in ninth place was Aaron Bateman, the first of the boys to finish from the club.

Also showing improvement was Joseph Collins, who finally broke into the top ten, with another tenacious performance.

In the U12 race, Bourne fielded their usual quartet of riders, with Cameron Neilson again the first Bourne finisher, followed by Alex Galpin, Alex Gammons and Dan Galpin respectively.

Sian Botteley and Tim James flew the flag for the Bourne Wheelers in the Notts and Derby cyclocross race at Nottingham.

Tim performed valiantly, finishing seventh in the U16 race, and second in the U14.

Sian, despite a couple of crashes, managed to fend off all the female opposition for a well deserved victory.
