Glenn’s rainbow tops a fine week at reservoir

Boat and bank anglers have enjoyed another week of 
quality fish at Rutland Water with 1,236 catches recorded in seven days.

The week’s best fish was a superb 7lb 12¼oz rainbow taken on a tequila booby and intermediate line by Kevin Glenn from Northumberland.

Other impressive catches included a 6lb 13oz fish 
taken by Peter Andrews and a large brown trout estimated to weigh between 9 and 10 lb, landed and returned by Dave Mitchell. He used a size 12 hopper dry at New Zealand Point and the fish bottomed out his 8lb scales with ease.

l Warren Landridge ended Richard Cooper’s winning run in week seven of the Tuesday Night Boat League.

Anglers faced challenging conditions with calm water and Landridge took top spot with 5 fish for 11lb 12oz. Gary Cooper landed the best fish at 3lb 11oz.

Results: 1st Warren Landridge 5 for 11lb 12oz; 2nd Geoff Wanless 5 for 9lb 7oz; 3rd Keith Jones of Wittering 3 for 7lb 15oz.

Rutland Water Fly Fishers Hanby Cup was won by Ron Gent and Martin Rowson. The best fish caught during the match weighed 6lb 2oz and was taken by Steve Crowder.

Results: 1st Ron Gent and Martin Rowson 16 fish for 44lb 3oz; 2nd Peter Gover and Gary West 16 for 39lb 4oz; 3rd Graham Pearson and Al Owen 16 for 38lb 14oz.

The Midlands heat of the Anglian Water Airflo competition was won by HSE Offshore-FWTFA who caught 37 fish for 107lb 6oz.

Dave Mordue, of the winning team, took the best fish at 6lb 6oz and his teammate Peter Crow took the best bag at 27lb 5oz.

The third leg of five in the Mid-Summer Rudder match takes place on Saturday.
