Bourne Deeping 10 St Ives 2nd 0

BOURNE Deeping Hockey Club’s men’s team ended the year in sensational style with a 10-goal rout of St Ives 2nd on Saturday.

Man-of-the-match Nick Glover scored four and his brother Alex claimed a hat-trick as the Dragons, ruthless against the division’s bottom side, secured top spot for Christmas.

It did not take long for Bourne Deeping to go ahead. A couple of slick, one-touch passes ended with a Tommy Stopper through ball setting up Nick Glover for a classy first time strike to open his account.

BDHC could smell blood and launched a barrage of attacks, combining speedy wing play from Chris Clarkson and Ali Rowledge with composure in the middle from Stopper and Phil Arnold.

Nick Glover had soon bagged his hat-trick, linking well up front with his brother Alex, while Ali Rowledge used his blistering pace to score twice in the first half.

Towards the end of first period, a top class short corner routine presented Alex Glover with a tap in through the keeper’s legs to give Bourne Deeping a commanding 6-0 lead at the half way point.

Bourne Deeping continued to press in the second half, creating more and more chances.

The four goals in the second half came from a penalty flick from Clarkson, a poachers’ tap-in from Nick Glover, and two more for Alex. He rounded the keeper for one and sold him a clever dummy for the second.

Bourne Deeping: Tim Beaver, Jason Purllant, Peter Jeffery, Andy Briault, John Plant, Ali Rowledge, Tommy Stopper, Phil Arnold, Chris Clarkson, Nick Glover, Alex Glover, Andy Kind.
