RUTLAND County Lady Captain Bridget Yardley staged a colourful and eventful two day drive-in at the club last week.
Thick fog on the Thursday failed to deter a large group of lady members wishing Bridget well for year as captain.
Suzanne Huxley was overall winner with 38 points, while Jenny Cobb took the best back-9 and the best for the par 3s.
The Saturday competition featured a St Patrick’s Day prize for last place which was claimed by Margaret Rippin in a No Driver or 7-iron allowed format.
Ann Shuttleworth excelled in this event winning with 38 points followed by Barbara Fisher in second on 34 pts. Jackie Cole and Anne Milsom shared third with Trish Clarke and Anne Milsom nearest the pins.
Phil Drury’s experience of ladies’ golf helped him guess the distance of Bridget’s Saturday drive while all enjoyed an exotic tea party and raffle in the clubhouse run by Karen Palmer.
l MARTIN Clark continued his good early season form winning the March Stableford with 44 points ahead of a delighted Rick Collins on 42 in second place. Mike Powell just edged out Jordan Paylor with 41 for third place.
The course is playing well and looks set for a good turn-out for the Spring Am-Am on the Saturday. A few places are still available. Call Tracy on 01780 460330 to enter.
l THE Seniors completed their Captain v Vice Captain challenge with 33 singles played in the final round.
Vice-captain John Phipps’ team won the third leg 16-15 but Captain Stewart Picton triumphed overall 35-27.
l John Mason and Bill Ansell beat Barry Maddocks and John Phipps 4 and 3 to reach the final of the Winter Knockout.
