RUTLAND County Seniors have started their inter-club match season strongly, recording two wins from their first two fixtures.
Captain Stewart Picton enjoyed his team’s opening 4½ to 3½ away win at South Kyme and was further rewarded by his nearest the pin which earned him a bottle of Scotch.
Results: Stewart and Mike Pell halved their game, Ray Taylor and Arthur Dethick won 3 and 2, Dave Whitehead and John Rudin won 4 and 3, Keith Barratt and John Chatburn won 1 up, John Mason and Graham Cole lost 2 down, Dick Wray and Mike Glenister lost 5 and 4, Terry Loomes and Ron Jenkins won 3 and 2, John Phipps and Bob Goddard lost 3 and 2.
l TOFT Seniors were more comfortably dealt with at home by a 6-2 margin.

l GRAHAM Cole and Alan Shuttleworth lived up to their top gun billing by defeating John Mason and Bill Ansell 2 and 1 in the Winter knockout final.
l ALISTAIR Scott left the field in his wake as he won the Seniors Stableford by six points.
Scott scored 44 points in division one, well ahead of second placed Gerry Webb.
Andrew Moore won division two with a score of 40 points, ahead of Jan Reynolds who came in second with 38 points. on countback.
l JOE Smith, Ray Taylor and Dave Roberts gelled perfectly in the All Three Competition to score 117 point, and beat Alan Kydd, John Brunning and Kev Whittle on 114 pts.
l RUTLAND County Ladies dug deep to win by 3½ to 1½ for captain, Bridget Yardley, after she and partner Karen Palmer lost the first tie against Elton Furze by 5 and 4.
Ann Shuttleworth and Amanda Riches evened the score with a 5 and 4 win, Jenny Cobb and Mandy Collins halved, Anne Milsom and Pat Wright won 1 up, Suzanne and Imogen Huxley won 2 up.

l STOKE Seniors opening match of the season was delayed by a day when the fixture against Stanton-on-the-Wolds coincided with storms on Wednesday.
However they were able to play the following day when they visited Newark Seniors.
