GOLF: Ken fires first hole-in-one

RUTLAND County’s course is starting to show its autumn form with the rough dying away and the greens becomeing more receptive, providing perfect conditions for Ken Jakeman to record his first ever ace.

Jakeman, 79, from Bourne, shot his hole-in-one on the 140 yard, par-3, 13th hole with his trusty 7-Wood.

l JIM Wilson jetted back from playing golf in Portugal to win Rutland County’s Bogey Cup this week, burning up the course with a cracking +7 which shaved his handicap by 2 shots now playing 14.

Runner-up was Russ Aust whose +5 also saw his handicap drop to 3, while Jack Sirrel was third on +2 pushing Mark Durno into fourth on countback.

l STOKE Rochford became the latest victims of Rippin’s Raiders as County’s C team finished their season on a high with a 5-1 home victory.

Skipper Dave Rippin was partnered to a 3&2 win by Mike Platt. Graham Cole and Chris Palmer lost 3&2, Gerry McIntyre and Keith Burnett won 4&3, Alan Shuttleworth and Ian Rice won 4&3, John Chatburn and David Whitehead won 3&2, Kevin Moxham and Jordan Paylor won 3&2.

l THE club’s annual Captain v Vice-Captain match produced a stunning 8-1 victory for Rippin over next year’s skipper Kevin Moxham.

Results: Rick Collins and Josh Paylor beat Graham Cole and Flo Lawrence by +3; Ian Rice and Chris Palmer beat Dick Crosbie and Bill Robertson by +2, Dave Waddell and Jordan Paylor beat Dave Champion and Bob Ambrose by +1, Alan Shuttleworth and Pete Siciliano lost to Ollie Huxley and Deggie Palmer by +1.
