GOLF: Van Der Merwe wins opening round

EMILE Van Der Merwe has won the opening round of Toft Mens Summer Medal.

Van Der Merwe won with a nett 71 on countback ahead of Graham Moore.

Despite the appalling wet weather conditions Justin Moore won the Saturday Stableford with 36 points.

Toft Mens A team won 4-2 at Belton Woods in the South Lincolnshire League

The game was played in the most atrocious conditions with howling wind and a waterlogged course but all credit to the team they ground out a victory.

* TOFT’s Ladies team squeezed past Burghley Park in national The Daily Mail Foursomes national competition.

Mandy Lees and Lorraine Robinson led a narrow home victory of 4-3.

* Toft Ladies celebrated their Annual Spring Social with a fundraising Beetle Drive.

A nine hole competition was played and the winner on countback with 18 points was Viv Stanton. Winner of the Beetle Drive was Lisa Gauci, Jacqueline Hilton won the Boobie prize and £70 was raised for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

A plant was presented to Jean Parsons for her birthday and the ladies also thanked her for supplying the tea, coffee and birthday cake.

Cathy Lee was presented with her framed picture for winning the Winter Eclectic. Viv Stanton was presented with The Susan Sadler Trophy for winning the Winter League.

* TOFT Seniors’ April Stableford was won by Peter Henderson on 39 points. First in Division 1 was Mike Paulson with 35, and topping division two was Nigel Turnbull on 36.
