Fantastic work by the greenkeepers allowed the Easter Pairs competition to be played on all four days at Rutland Water Golf Club.

It was looking unlikely that the competition would take place in the early part of last week but incredible efforts from all the staff at the club, clearing tees and greens and making the course safe, allowed for play to start on Good Friday as scheduled.

Head greenkeeper Daniel Wren said: “It has been a tough few days for me and the team, but we managed to get the course playable and I’m really pleased with the positive feedback we’ve had regarding playing conditions.”

More than 70 players took part in the betterball Stableford competition, with scoring surprisingly high given the cold and windy weather.

Chris Thomas and playing partner Mark Holmes thought they had done enough on the Saturday by posting 51 points, but this turned out to be only good enough for second place.

Matt Bashford and Bob Aitman went one better on the Sunday with a remarkable score of 52 points. Mick Davis and Rick Woolmer were third on 48 points.
