Rutland County’s head greenkeeper Jamie Goddard took advantage of smooth, pacy greens to partner Russ Aust to a 2up victory against Eric Cooper and Martin Clarke in the final of the club’s summer doubles knockout.

The match hinged on the 17th where Cooper birdied, leaving Goddard a 15-footer to halve the hole, which he nervelessly slotted. An adventurous par from Aust on the 18th secured the win.

Despite Dave Rippin and Bridget Yardley losing 3&2, their team rallied to score a 4½-3½ win at home to Greetham Valley’s mixed team.

Cliff Knapp and Jackie Cole won 2&1, Chris Bower and Margaret Rippin won 3&2, Gerry McIntyre and Ann Shuttleworth lost 2 down, Deggie Palmer and Heather Knapp won 5&3, Rick Collins and Pat Wright won 5&4, Dave Waddell and Anne Milsom halved, Phil Drury and Jenny Cobb won 4&3.

Putting inconsistent form to one side, Pete Siciliano teamed up with Karen Palmer to comfortably win the Mixed Doubles knockout final 4&2 against Phil Drury and Pat Wright.

The Foursomes Cup provided a perfect opportunity for Chris Palmer and Bridget Yardley to show their skills at the alternate shot format as they shot a net 70 to win the title ahead of Pete King and Nick Nicolle on net 73.

The seniors held their final medal of the year in blustery conditions last week.

Division 1 was won by Barry Cheshire on a net 67 with John Mason second (69) and Gerry McIntyre (71).

Division 2 winner was Barry Maddock with a net 74, beating Maurice Arnold on countback. Roy Armitage was third with a net 75.
