Henderson hits his first hole-in-one at Toft Open

Peter Henderson struck a perfect hole-in-one during Toft’s Seniors Open last week.

The 24-handicapper’s first ever ace came on the par 3, 13th. His 40 point round won him a round and meal for two at Woburn.

The Open attracted 48 golfers, on a day when most players got a soaking from relnetless rain.

Results: Visitors - 1st, Howard Jones (Burghley Park) 32 points c/b; 2nd, Michael Pare (Greetham Valley) 32; 3rd Mike Dronfield (Luffenham Heath) 31. Toft - 1st, Mike Paulson 34 c/b; 2nd David Sharp 34; 3rd Mike Platt 33.

Organiser of the competition, Malcolm Nicholls thanked Royden Fairfax and Terry Hare for their help on the day, staff at the club and hotel, and Chanelle Nicholls, Bourne Textile Services, The Horseshoe at Thurlby, Warners, Lincolnshire Bow, Tesco, Double & Megson, Bakkavor, Morrisons and Acushnet Europe.

Toft ladies’ home league match against Spalding was played in filthy conditions with rain, cold and wind making it an uphill struggle.

Toft did offer their opponents an alternative date but the Spalding team bravely decided to battle on and in the end the home team fought their way to a 3-1 victory.

League Captain Mairead Scott and her partner Lorraine Robinson began with a solid 3&1 win, and Helen Roscoe and Mandy Lees managed an even stronger 4&3 victory. Mary Stark and Sandra Wildmore clinched a close 2&1 victory and Spalding won a consolation match against Dianne Clayton and Margaret Dair 3&2.

l Sixteen Toft ladies enjoyed a fun Stableford Multiplier played in pairs.

Jacqueline Hilton and Chris Barnes topped the bill with 55 points and Helen Roscoe/Karen Parsonage were second with 50.
