l STEVE Crowder was the star of The Cutting Trophy match, organised by Rutland Water FlyFishers.
Crowder caught six fish for a total weight of 16lb 7oz. His bag included the best fish of the match at 3lb 8oz, winning him a £30 prize. His winning method was to pull a booby on an intermediate line.
The match was held in atrocious weather but despite the conditions eight of the club’s stalwarts turned out, opting in the main for the protected areas including Carrot Creek and west of Whitwell; although Dave Porter and Steve Cullen elected for the more exposed New Zealand Point/Berry Butts area.
Given the enthusiasm, the final result was a bit of a disappointment, with a total of only seven fish caught for a total weight of 18lb 2oz.
l SEVERAL anglers beat the weather to take some good bags of fish last week.
Anglers with good bags included Al Owen and Martin Campbell who amassed a 16 fish haul weighing 56lb 13¾oz (including two fish weighing more than 5lb). The pair fished the North Arm with floating line and nymphs.
The best rainbow of the week weighed 5lb 8oz and was taken by T Baty of Grantham. The best brown weighted 5lb 2oz and was caught by P Brimson of Thetford.
The mid-week boat winner was David Dakers of Langham.
Bad weather forced the cancellation of Saturday’s floating line competition. This will be rescheduled at a later date.
