Ladies Open is a roaring success

NORTH Luffenham Golf Club ladies section held a successful Open Invitation at the beginning of August.

The winning team of Mel Colston, Gill McTaggart and Sharon Jones were closely followed in second place by Helen Purvis, Annie Hill, Margaret Middleton.

The longest drive was won by Joan Greenfield, and nearest the pin was Margaret Middleton. The highest scoring guest player was Sharon Jones, with Kathy Gibb the top scoring member.

l NORTH Luffenham’s gents drew 3-3 in a recent match against nearby rivals Rutland Water.

Results (Luffenham names only): Ken Jones and Alan Swindley won 1 up; Tom Little and Chris Lee won 1 up; Peter Kelleher and Alan Barwell lost 2 & 1; John Fursdon and Don Lambert won 6 & 5; Pete Lambert and Dale Pettitt lost 1 down; Lew Ritchie and Geoff Clyde lost 4 & 2.

He struck the perfect shot on the 156 yard par 3 third hole.

l FOR the first time the club has held a President’s Invitation Day, consisting of a 9-hole Stableford followed by a barbecue.

l GORDON Knox won the August Sunday Division One Medal with an excellent net 66, reducing his handicap by one shot to 11.

John Everitt was runner-up with an equally impressive nett 69 (off 18), with Peter Kelleher third with a net 70 (off 14).

Graham Ball was the eventual winner in Division 2 with a brilliant net 66, earning him a one shot reduction to 19. Don Lambert was second with a net 71 (off 20), closely followed by Dale Pettitt with a net 72 (off 28).

Ken Jones was the runaway winner of the mid-week medal for August, with a net 66 to reduce his handicap to 19. Trailing five shots behind in second was Alan Barwell (off 21), followed by Peter Christmas also with a net 71 (off 27) but losing out on countback.
