Rutland cyclocross rider Lawrence Green will be watching his step over Christmas, preparing for the big event of the year, the national championships.
Lawrence will line up against the UK’s best cross-country riders in the major competition in Derby on January 12.
He has been performing well in the run-up to the championships, achieving good top 15 results recently in the senior categories in both the Lincolnshire League and West Midlands League.
The Velo Club Rutland rider had hoped to continue his best form on Sunday in the Midlands regional championships, aiming for a solid top 20 place.
However, he was not fully fit and had to be content with 38th out of 55 on a demanding 2.1-mile course in the grounds of Hardwick Hall, Chesterfield.
After the 50-minute race on a course over open fields, gravel roads and a short section of single track woodland, Lawrence said: “I was not feeling 100 per cent fit and found myself on the back foot for the entire race.
“Now I have a short break before I go up against the UK’s best racers at the national championships.”
