League leaders enjoy tight victory over rivals

LEADERS Alpha beat second-placed Bravo is a tight match at the top of Stamford and Distict Indoor Bowls Club’s Monday pairs league.

Pauline Dixon and Alan Romaine defeated Isabel Jenner and Betty Sims 11-10, which dropped Bravo to fifth in the league. Third placed Echo, Pat and Peter Tibbert, capitalised on this to move second after a 15-9 victory over Hotel, as did the Charlie team of Ted Beal and Jeanette Wynne with a 14-10 win over Golf.

The Delta team of Peter Herrick and Terry Weaver also made league progress with a convincing 17-9 result against the Foxtrot pair of Pauline and John Cowell. In the Wednesday Triples League, the Friends team of Stephanie Smye, Arthur Chapman and George Cameron moved up to third in Division Two, after a 13-9 win over closest opponents Pick ‘n Mix, while the Rods Mixers team of David Ingram, Sandra Gabrial and Rod Briars held undefeated Geriatrics 11-11.

League leaders Eagles had a victory over the Take Five team ,still in their first season, when Pauline Young, Howard Neath and Ray Rundle battled through an 8-17 defeat.

The top three teams in Division One all lost this week. Third placed Canaries had the narrowest defeat, 12-13 to the Motley Crew squad of Brian Edwards, Harry Jamieson and Ted Beal, which dropped Canaries to fourth place. Second placed Maltesers were defeated 19-15 by the Alphas team of Janet and John Gamble and Alan Chick.

Bottom placed Tarrango claimed the victory of the week, when June Brennan, Richard Horne and John Shellard defeated league leaders Wakes 11-7.
