Action on the green at Market Overton Bowls Club begins on April 14 with the annual Presidents and Captains Day.
But the club officially opens its doors before with two events which will offer a warm welcome to new members: A cheese and wine evening on Saturday, April 6, and a social evening with live music on Friday, April 12, when Irish musicians McGoo will entertain as the club hopes to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Care.
The first gala event of the year will be on July 7 but there will be lots of other evenings for players to enjoy social bowls.
Marko’s Annette Oliver said: “During the summer there are ‘chummy nights’, usually on Thursdays evenings, when members just turn up.
“The club would welcome anyone interested in playing bowls from nine to 90 on any of these dates just to have a chat and meet some of us.
“While there are many competitions for those with the competitive spirit, bowls is a very sociable game and there are lots of chances to enjoy good company.
“Should anyone – of any age - think this might be something they would like to try but they have never held a bowl in their life, we are willing to arrange one-to-one roll-ups with one of our group at any time of day.”
All players need is a pair of flat rubber-soled shoes. The club can provide the bowls.
Annette added: “This is a game that is addictive, keeps you fit, gets you out in the fresh air. You should hear the laughter on the green and you will know what we mean.”
