Rutland’s Mean Valley Roller Girls and visiting team Hulls Angels Roller Dames matched each other almost point for point, during the first half of Saturday’s Halloween-themed Monster Brawl bout at Catmose Sports in Oakham.
Both teams fought hard with the offence and defence of both sides working over-time to keep the scores even.
The second half however was a different story and the frustration of Hulls Angels became evident as the half progressed, with Mean Valley having a strategic edge in calling off jams before Hull were able to score.
By the final whistle, the Mean Valley Roller Girls, made up of players from Oakham, Stamford and Peterborough, led the Hulls Angels 180-130.
It was the third home bout of the year for the Mean Valley team, which was formed just over a year ago, and they are already making a name for themselves in the roller derby circuit, having won two of their first three bouts.
The team will host November Pain at Catmose Sports on November 24 at 1.30pm when they will take on Bruising Banditas from West Yorkshire.
