JUNIOR badminton star Megan Hassall decimated her opposition at the Lincolnshire County Badminton Championships.
The 11-year-old, who attends Bourne Abbey Primary Academy, lost only 17 points in two separate county finals.
Having finished runner-up in last year’s U11 Girls’ singles event, Megan, who trains at South Kesteven Badminton Academy in Grantham and lives on North Road, Bourne, was determined to go one better this year and breezed untroubled into the final.
Once there, she set about her business with poise and aggression, sweeping to the first game for the loss of just four points and then becoming even more dominant in the second, winning 15-4, 15-2 to claim her first county title.
In the U11 Girls’ doubles event, Megan teamed up with nine-year-old Megan Diggle of Scunthorpe. The pair faced far stiffer opposition but Megan carried her form from the singles into the doubles and was almost untouchable as she and her partner swept through the opening rounds and won the final 15-6, 15-5.
With two County Championship titles claimed in one day, Megan looks to be in a good position as she continues to compete for Lincolnshire in inter-county events.
* THE Lincolnshire County Badminton trials for next season will be held at Lincoln University Sports Centre on Sunday with all players welcome to attend in the hope of making the 2012-13 county squad.
