Stamford Amateur Boxing Club - under the tutelage of head coach Mark Atherton, assisted by Darren Strange, Marcus Stanier and Joe Mitchel - continues to make its mark in the boxing world.
They gate-crashed the London party this weekend and walked away with two national schoolboy champions in talented 48kg star Boston Cash and 54kg star Fred Brooks.
Brook’s opponent in the final hailed from the formidable Dale Youth Boxing club in London, whose past stars have included Olympian James De Gale and world champion George Groves.
Despite a raucous atmosphere and huge support for the home boxer, Brooks remained unfazed and executed the game plan to perfection running out a comfortable points winner.
Jubilant head coach Atherton said: “I couldn’t be happier, the hard work in the gym is finally paying off.
“This is only the beginning. We have many talented boxers in the gym and I am confident there will be many more titles to follow.”
This success followed hard-punching senior middleweight Mohammed Samir’s unfortunate split decision exit at the semi-final stage to the eventual winner, another Dale Youth rising star.
Stamford ABC certainly appears to be going from strength to strength and the coaching methods have enticed elite England international female boxers Ramla Ali and Kirsty Hill to train at the gym in recent times.
Stamford ABC will shortly be relocating to new premises in the town after eight years at the fire station.
Atherton explained: “If you are a business that can see the benefits of being part of this exciting journey to the top of the sport, then we are seeking sponsors to help fund the club and take it to the next level supporting the youth within our community.
“A full range of sponsorship packages are available for people to help support Stamford’s very own next generation.”
The club run a number of different sessions to cater for a wide range of the community, including sessions for 12-year-olds and under, competitive boxers, fitness and conditioning sessions and a non-contact female-only session.
All of these will continue to operate out of their gym at Stamford Fire Station until further notice. Details can be found by searching for Stamford Boxing on Facebook or on http://stamfordboxingclub.wixsite.com/stamfordboxingclub
