Oakham open up wide lead at the midway point

Oakham won the second leg of the four-match OK Trophy series against Keyworth 115-95 on Saturday.

They came away with a 20-shot victory despite winning only two of the five rinks. The rinks skipped by Denis Smith and John Rogers won by 20 and 15 shots respectively.

Oakham lead by 31 shots going into the third round in August.

Scores (Oakham only): Gwyn Davies, Peter Gleeson, Bob Swarbrick and Denis Smith won 36-16; Eddie Owen, Jack Pearce, Bob Hammond and John Rogers won 26-11; Lyn Walters, Terry Thurman, Barrie Payne and Alan Jones lost 16-17; Ray Gregory, Mike Hardy, Gail Robertson and Rick Tarleton lost 22-25; Ray Wilkins, Brian Garner, Ivan Lang and Chris Wallis lost 15-26.

Playing their first match since May, Oakham Ladies won 66-38 against Syston Ladies.

All rinks won with Janet Horwood’s team winning by 1 shot on the last end.

Scores : Juliet Healey, Di Culshaw and Jenny Bateman won 28-12; Eileen Wright, Kath Rowlands, Mary Smith and Val Crowder won 19-8; Anne Knight, Liz Polllard, Beryl Birch and Janet Horwood won 19-18.

Oakham’s match against 
Market Overton was a new fixture for the Thursday team and they continued their good form winning 115-86.

Oakham won on three of the five rinks. The winning skips were Chris Wallis, Rick Tarleton and Ivan Lang.
