Oaks coach Tom Armstrong was quick to praise the contribution of former Leicester Tigers and England U21 player Matt Hampson after his side’s first victory.
Armstrong said: “It has made a big difference to have Matt coaching. We are winning more scrums and line-outs. He added: “They started strongly but we defended well.
“After the long delay to replace the referee I was worried that we may have switched off but everybody did really well.
“James Beanland had never played second row before but slotted in very well, and Andrew Wallace made some massive hits.”
The result lifts Oakham to seventh in the Midlands East 2 (North) table.
