Hardy athletes arrived in Oakham at the finish of a gruelling 147-mile, non stop marathon.

Only five out of a field of 21 made it to the finish line at Oakham library on Sunday night last week.

The ultra marathon runners started the race at the Humber Bridge at 7am on Saturday and ran along the Viking Way footpath.

They had only 40 hours to complete the course, and the first man home, Luke Ashton, did it with more than six hours to spare. The finishers were welcomed in Oakham by town mayor Adam Lowe.
