Leon Wyche and Gary Ferrar won a tight doubles final at Greetham Valley beating Iain Bain and Dave Morgan on the first extra hole on Sunday.
The pairs faced strong winds throughout the final, which was played on the Lakes course, and it was the eventual winners who took an early lead, going one up after two holes.
They were immediately pegged back on the third, and Iain and Dave pulled away to three ahead by the 11th but Leon, who plays off eight, and Gary, off 11, won the 14th, halved the 15th and won the 16th and 17th to square the match with just one hole to go.
Both pairs hit perfect tee shots on the difficult 18th as they made light work of reaching the green with birdie chances which both pairs took to keep the score level.
Returning to the 1st hole and hitting into a strong headwind, the pairs began a sudden death play-off.
Leon and Gary were just off the green for two and although Leon narrowly missed a birdie he had left himself an easy tap in for the par. Dave meanwhile was on the green in three but faced a tricky, downhill, ten footer and he was within inches of matching Leon to take the match onto the next hole.
Both pairs could soon meet again as they are both competing in the winter league which starts in a few weeks time.
Greetham’s seniors finished their season with a half at Birstall.
The Greetham team won the first game, lost the second but took the next three. They needed just a half from the remaining three games but Birstall rallied and won the last three to force a half.
The seniors next challenge is against Greetham Ladies for the Silver Salver.
