GREETHAM Valley Golf Club’s Saturday and Sunday winter league players now know who has qualified from the round robin stage.
The initial round was completed at the weekend with the winners of eight leagues set to go head-to-head in the quarter finals.
Steff Dutton and Alan Bennett topped their league without losing a match, they won five and halved two. They will play Brian McInerney and Andy Dickinson who were also undefeated.
Scotty Stevenson and Ali McNaughton won all of their games and will meet two of Greetham’s band of up and coming juniors, Rory Ludbrook and Rhys Evans who were also unbeaten.
The father and son pairing of Ron and Alex Carter finished with 11 and will take on Steve Sharples and Andy Burdett who scored 10, while the final pairing pits Leon Wych and Carl Harris, who took full points from their games, against Carl Causebrook and Ray Hughes.
Battle begins on Sunday with the semis a week later and the final planned for March 27.
The Seniors have a slightly different system for their winter league. They play up to ten games with the best five results counting.
Jack Vernal currently leads the pack on 186 points with seniors’ vice-captain Peter MacDonald-Pearce in second with 185 and John Dowding in third place with 184 points. With only one more round to play, in two weeks time, it could all change if one of the top three beats his previous “worst score”.
At the moment, Jack’s lowest score is 35, Peter’s is 32 while John has to beat his lowest of 33.
