Exton Indoor Bowls Club held their annual trophy presentation at the Fox and Hounds, last week.
The club, which only opens in the village hall during the winter months, plays short mat indoor bowls.
Trophy winners were: John Burton Trophy, Mick Mills; Doubles winners, Elizabeth and Martin Wallace, runners up Chris Marsland and Annette Oliver; Peter Feeney Rosebowl, Bob Kirkpatrick; Eddy Hudson Tankard,David Healey; Christmas Candlestick, Ann Cusdin; Peter Feeney Trophy, Mick Mills.
l Oakham BC’s Thursday Team narrowly failed to gain revenge for a heavy defeat at Birstall earlier in the month, going down 89-87 despite winning on three of the five rinks.
Oakham’s winning skips were Rick Tarleton, Chris Wallis and Bob Hammond.
Scores: Bob Spence, Rod Stanley, John Moore and Rick Tarleton won 19-12; Brian Garner, Derek Bury, Barrie Payne and Chris Wallis won 20-14; David Thorne, Ken Jennings, Norman Coville and Bob Hammond won 20-18; Roger Lancaster, Rod Groombridge, Peter Ferry and Alan Jones lost 16-20; Gwyn Davies, David Hillier, Terry Thurman and Gail Robertson lost 12-25.
l Oakham’s Saturday Team had their most emphatic win of the season so far, with an amazing 94-52 victory at Evington Park.
The rinks skipped by Gail Robertson and Chris Wallis who won by 24 and 21 shots respectively. Oakham’s other winning rink was skipped by Alan Jones.
Scores: Ray Wilkins, Val Crowder, Peter Gleeson and Gail Robertson won 33-9; Derek Bury, Richard Ward, Peter Ferry and Chris Wallis won 28-7; Eileen Wright, Lyn Walters, Terry Thurman and Alan Jones won 19-15; Brenda Lang, David Thorne, Bob Swarbrick and Ivan Lang lost 14-21.
l Oakham’s Sunday Mixed Team enjoyed a comfortable 68-51 win over Chater.
Oakham won three of the four rinks with the outstanding performance coming from the rink skipped by Ivan Lang which won by 20 shots.
Scores: Ray Wilkins, Margaret Jefferies and Ivan Lang won 24-4; Liz Pollard, Di Culshaw and Michael Timms won 18-15; Alice Wells, Ros Carter and Beryl Birch won 16-15; David Morgan, Brenda Lang and David Thorne lost 10-17.
l Oakham Ladies won their first home game of the season, beating Melton Mowbray 69-41.
Jenny Bateman and Eileen Wright were Oakham’s two winning skips.
Scores: Rosemary Gregory, Margaret Jefferies and Jenny Bateman won 30-14; Anne Knight, Brenda Lang and Eileen Wright won 25-11; Juliet Healey, Maureen Walters and Janet Horwood lost 14-16.
