The first men’s Stableford competition of the year was won by Daniel Rogers, who stormed the field with a best ever score of 44 points.

Rogers was five shots clear of his nearest rivals Chris Newton and Richard Knight who finished second and third respectively after countbackon 39 points.

Daniel, who has only recently become a member of the club, said: “I just went out to enjoy playing the course and luckily everything just fell right on the day. My aim this year was to get my handicap down a few shots but I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly.” His handicap has been cut two shots from 18 to 16 with competition secretary Eamonn O’Brien vowing to keep a ‘close eye’ on future results!

Androulla Lloyd won her first ever competition when she took first place in the April Ladies Stableford.

She scored of 36 points, ahead of Sharon Jones in second and Marion Clarke in third.

l Rutland Water seniors played their first match of the year away, against Nene Park (Thorpe Wood) seniors, narrowly losing 3½-2½.

There were wins for the Rutland Water partnerships of Dennis Hand and Dave Mee, and Tony Wright and Jim Graham with the first pair burning up the course with a 5&4 victory, and Graham pitching close on the last hole to secure the other win.

Geoff Gregg and Paul Kirk earned a half in a closely fought contest, while David Lloyd Williams and Barry Read, Bob Sachs and Mike Rimmer, and Tony Purkis and Norman Parish all lost their games.

l The club is taking part in Midlands Golf Week by holding a free coaching session for beginners on April 21 between 1pm and 2pm. Places are limited so book in advance.
