Rutland Hockey Club Ladies entered a team into the Peterborough Summer Sixes tournament on Sunday.
Wins over Wisbech, Huntingdon, the P’Boro A Team and a draw with St Neots saw them top their group, before losing to St Ives in the final by five goals to three.
A club spokesman said: “Reaching the final was a fantastic achievement given that all of the other Clubs play in leagues above the Rutland side, who will be aiming for a second successive promotion this year.”
More than 25 members of the club headed up to Rutland Water on Saturday as part of their summer social programme.
After cycling around the reservoir in the morning, the group took a well-earned picnic break at Whitwell before an afternoon of rounders and ultimate frisbee.
The next event in the calendar is the Bank Holiday Monday ‘vintage’ fancy dress hockey match, when club members will be taking to the grass for an old-fashioned, St Trinians-style contest.
