Rutland Ladies 3

City of Peterborough 3rd 2

RUTLAND had not lost to the City side in more than two seasons and despite losing some players due to exams and injuries, they went into the game confident that their winning streak would not be broken.

However Rutland were confined to only a few counter attacks in a first half as the Peterborough side forced them back.

Katie Richardson and Dom Lammie ensured that Peterborough’s shots on goal were few and far between, and when Rutland did release the ball to the forward line early, they looked like scoring every time with Harriet Crennell easily outpacing the Peterborough defence.

With only their second attack of the game, Rutland won and scored a short corner through Anne Pollock.

But Peterborough continued to attack and scored a deserved equalizer before half time.

Peterborough took the lead early in the second half but the two teams were not separated for long with Rutland soon levelling.

Rachel Richardson released Harriet Crennell with an excellent early ball, who then beat the last defender and goalkeeper to return the pass to Richardson who tapped into the unprotected net.

Ellie Ricketts drove forward from the left half beating several players every time, and from one of these runs created another short corner which Ricketts converted giving Rutland a one goal lead.

The home side then had to defend strongly, even coping with the loss of Rachel Richardson to a head injury, to scrape through to the end securing their first victory of 2012.

Rutland play Spalding away this Saturday.

Rutland Ladies 2nd 4 Wisbech 3rd 0

RUTLAND’S second string started slowly at Wisbech on Saturday but gradually found their way into the game.

After a period of dominant Rutland play, Lucy Ginn opened the scoring and a second soon followed, Ginn scoring at the second attempt after being set up by Megan Wright.

The away side move the ball more quickly in the second half, creating good patterns of play for their third and fourth goals.

At the other end, debutante keeper Adele Ginn was in fine voice for the Rutlanders, encouraging the team on. Their next match is at Uppingham against Spalding 3rd XI on Saturday.
