It was a remarkable day at the bottom of the Midlands Two East North Division on Saturday as Stamford RUFC avoided relegation in their last game of the season.

Stamford did what was required of them away at bottom of the league and already relegated Ashby, winning 33-15, but then all eyes were on what was happening just down the road at Loughborough.

Stamford had started the day in 11th place in the 12 team division, with two sides dropping down the leagues each season. Loughborough, were narrowly ahead of them in the standings in 10th at 3pm, but a 19-12 loss to Market Bosworth gave salvation to Stamford who have completely turned their form around under the leadership of returning management duo of former first team captain Matt Albinson and former coach Dave Laventure.

Since their arrival in the first week of March, replacing Stef Arlow, Stamford have won three out of four matches to pull themselves out of trouble.

They now have the Lincolnshire Cup final to look forward to on May 4 at Sleaford.
