Deepings Saxons played their first game of the season against Market Harborough thirds on Saturday.
Saxons made a fantastic start and were three tries to the good thanks to Kirk Green, Dan Young and Stu McCabe after only 10 minutes. Two conversions saw Deepings up 19-0.
Harborough then managed to work themselves into the game and got a try on 21 minutes.
This was later cancelled out by another try from Young just before half time.
At the interval, Saxons led 24-7.
The second half saw Deepings hit the ground running.
They added another two quick tries through Oli Peacock and Ian “Clunk” Harrison. Matt Pennels added another two conversions.
A third try by Billy Elliot and conversion 10 minutes later kept Deepings in control of the game.
As Harborough started to fight back, Deepings conceded a couple of tries and were reduced to 14 men due to an unfortunate sin bin, which meant Green had to spend the last eight minutes on the side lines.
Young finished off the game with his third try as the game finished 49-21.
A fantastic start to the season for Deepings.
