Thirty-one Toft ladies supported their Lady Captain Judith Childs in the special round of golf set up by the current captain each year and run in the format of their choice.

This time around Judith settled on a Texas Scramble followed by a garden party at her nearby home.

The day dawned sunny and hot with a strong breeze which tested the players’ stamina and the 18 holes were a real test of tactics and consistency.

Judith, her vice-captain Jean Parsons and past captain Sandra Wildmore were the first to tee off, followed by the other teams of three including three women returning to the game after enforced absences.

The winning team of Lorraine Robinson,Mandy Lees and Mairead Scott packed a punch but Cathy Lee, Geraldine Moss and Sandra Allen came in a close second. In third place were Viv Stanton,Lisa Gauci and Jacqueline Hilton.

The ladies then took welcome refreshments in Judith’s garden with drinks served by wine waiter Adrian Childs and a delicious buffet followed by presentations.

Vice-captain Jean presented Judith with two plants to thank her for the enjoyable day and her hospitality.

Cathy’s gross score of 83 was the lowest of the field but all the competitors played their socks off.

Tydd St Giles
exchange day

Twenty-two Toft players enjoyed something completely different in an exchange day with Tydd St Giles golfers, with both groups playing on the same day at the others’ course.

The visitors at Toft numbered only 16 and they did have to suffer a thunder storm break of 30 minutes, but by all accounts they had a great day.

Likewise the Toft lot played their Texas Scramble in hot and sultry conditions but the golf and post match meal were much enjoyed.

The winning team were Karen and David Parsonage, Lisa Gauci and Mike Platt, closely followed by Steve and Sandra Wildmore, Jim McLuckie and Louise Bradley. Mike and Maureen Paulson, Jacqueline Hilton and Roger Smitheringale were third.
