Stamford Colts were knocked out of the under-19s NLD Plate semi-final with a 24-5 loss away at Lincoln.
Having met twice already this season, the teams knew that were relatively evenly matched and it was going to be a tight game.
Playing with the wind in the first half, Ilkeston had the greater of the territory but possession was shared and the first 20 minutes remained scoreless with both defences on top.
Ilkeston finally broke the deadlock on 20 minutes with a score in the corner.
Stamford then had a long period of pressure in the opposition 22 but were unable to cross the line.
Ilkeston then cleared their lines with a long kick down field which led to a try and another straight from the re-start left Stamford reeling at 19-0 down at half time.
Despite having the wind at their backs in the second half, Stamford were not able to use it as much to their advantage and found themselves camped in their own half for much of the game.
Stamford’s only score came 10 minutes into the second half where a quick tap penalty from scrum-half Dan Whadcock gave space for the backs and the ball was neatly passed in midfield for Kieran Hynes to score.
Ilkeston ran in one more try shortly after and the final 20 minutes saw both defences cancelling each other out and Ilkeston took a thoroughly deserved 24-5 victory and on to the final at the end of April where they will meet Mansfield.
