THE Neil Harris order of merit is well underway at Greetham where the third round ended with players battling a stiff breeze.

Six handicapper and second team regular Steff Dutton had a fantastic round coming in with 43 points, one under for the day.

Steff said that he couldn’t recall ever playing better on the Lakes Course. As a result, he was docked two shots off his handicap and will play the next round off four.

Seven handicapper Neil Crees was second with 40 points to beat another former club captain Bob Beverley on countback.

Last week’s winner Ian Copley had to be satisfied with fourth. He also had 40 points but lost out on countback but unlike the top three, he didn’t lose any shots off his handicap.

l BOB Beverley is storming ahead in the order of merit table.

He is 20 points ahead of second placed Neil Harris and 21 ahead of Graham Smith but organiser Neil maintains there is a long way to go in the 22 round series. Bob will play off 13 in the next round.

l THE Lady Captain and former Captains went head to head on the Lakes course to compete for the Past Captains’ Trophy.

Rena Lister, who was captain in 2008 and playing off 19, had an eventful round but still came home with a nett 76 to win the trophy.

Chris Harper took second with a nett 78 and Angela Wheeler whose husband Jim will be the 2012 Men’s Club Captain, was third with a nett 82. Gilly Grant won the lowest gross.

l Father and son, Ron and Alex Carter, winners of the 2010 winter league, got off to a winning start to defend their title when the 2011 series started on Sunday.

Elsewhere, club captain Bob Green and his partner Bill Kirton got off to a good start with a five and four win but the biggest win of the day was down to Ian Bain and Dave Morgan. They had a fantastic seven and five win to start their campaign off with a bang.
