Striders rise to challenge

STAMFORD Striders have been out in force, competing in three challenging races across the country.

Philippa Taylor was first woman at the Northants Ultra 35 on Sunday, covering the 35-mile course through countryside and villages in 4:58:32 and coming fifth overall.

Alan Hayes was 23rd in 5:46:20 and Algie Audas came 62nd in 6:57:29.

David Babbs represented the Striders in the Blenheim Triathlon team event, running the 5k leg in 23:06 to complete his team’s 750m swim and 20km cycle in an overall 1:20:31 to take 21st place – 28 places ahead of Pippa Middleton’s team.

One week earlier James Skinner, Maggie Purr and Alan Hayes won the relay category in the Little Beaver Olympic Triathlon in the grounds of Belvoir Castle.

James swam 1500m in 27:26 and was fifth out the water, Maggie battled headwinds on the bike to complete 40k in 1:23:11, while Alan anchored the team home on a hilly off-road 10k run in 41:57.
