The hardest working martial arts students were rewarded after a year of effort at a club’s annual awards.

The Annabel Murcott Schools of Taekwondo held their annual awards for 2013 last weekend, a little late but as their calendar was full in 2013 they struggled to get the most important event in.

Annabel currently has around 400 students from four years old to 74 years young.

These awards are given to the student that has not only improved over the past year but also dedicated time and effort to the art.

The winner of assistant instructor of the year was Bourne’s Clare Brown.

Student of the year: Bourne - Benjamin Lamb from Bourne, - Alex Nelms from Billingborough, Jennine Helliwell from Thurlby, and Thomas Ellis from Deeping

Tiger of the year, for under-11s was Jacob Townsend from Stamford and Finleigh Bastin-Northcot from Thurlby.

Annabel said: “So many sports awards recognise the student that has natural abilities and sometimes
forget those that have to work hard.

“These awards are not given easily, they have to impress us all over the year.

“It was a good start to what will be a busy year and everyone had a fantastic night.

Annabel also had some good news herself as she was one of only three referees to be chosen to go to Davos in Switzerland to represent the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain next month, when national teams will compete at the European Taekwondo Federations World Championships.
