Twenty teams enjoyed a fantastic sunny day on Sunday at Market Overton Bowls Club.
After all the rain of recent days the green was in splendid order thanks to the fantastic team of greenkeepers and helpers.
Market Overton galas have a good reputation and Sunday was no exception. Tea and coffee greeted the early starters and the games were arranged to allow two lunch sittings.
Roast beef was on the menu prepared and served by Barbara Smith and her team.
The bowlers thought up some ingenious names for their teams of four; Canaries, Bees & C, Cottesmore, Barnack Crowd, Carlby B, Belvoir Quartet, Woodend Wobblers, Scared Hitchless, Misfits, Fly By Nights, Syston Stars, Franks Furies, Longshots, Bad Pennies, Keep Smiling, Whissendiners, Motivators, Allsorts, Ermines and Bowling Buddies.
The Longshots from Belvoir Vale consisting of couples Lawrie and Viv Pugh and John and Jill Lambert were the winners with 39 points over the four games.
Close runners up were the Ermines with 36 points from Stamford Town, Helga Ellis, Michael Baines, Sue and Dennis Starbuck.
The special prize team were the Motivators, Lyn Walters, Peter and Mary Slater and Chris Rowntree Snr from Market Overton.
Thanks go to David Duquemin gala organiser who has everything to his finger tips. On the day Terry Smith gave him a hand with the paperwork.
The good-natured banter all day was great. At the end of the bowling while bowls players enjoying tea the 41 raffle prizes were drawn
Everybody is looking forward to the next gala day in September.
