OAKHAM coach Dan Potter begins coaching juniors at Stamford Tennis Club tomorrow.

Potter, who is a level 3. LTA registered coach is offering sessions for players under the ages of 10 and said: “All they need is a pair of trainers. We’ll provide the rest of the kit.

“We split the groups into reds (U8s), oranges (U9s) and greens (U10s) and the courts get bigger for each group.”

Potter, 30, says tennis coaching has changed immensely since he was a youngster.

“There simply was no mini-tennis when I was younger,” said the skipper of the Oakham team that plays in the Hunts League. “It’s all labout getting kids playing at the club and having fun.

“After that, if they want, we can bring them on to compete at tournaments.”

Coaching currently takes place at Conduit Road but moves indoors to Stamford Queen Eleanor School in October. Sessions for U8s run from 4.15 to 5.05pm, and for U10s from 5.15 to 6.15pm. For details call Dan on 07834 470940.

Mini tennis for all ages takes place at Stamford on Saturday mornings and older players can play alongside the juniors on Wednesdays.
