A TRIO of top sportsmen and women from Bourne and the surrounding villages were officially welcomed onto the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme (LEAP) at the University of Lincoln’s Riseholme Campus last Friday.
The programme provides funding and support for talented athletes in the county who are hoping to compete at an Olympic or Paralympic Games.
Baston triathlete James Fountain, Bourne swimmer Lauren Wray and Bourne cycllist Ali Slater were all invited to join the programme after showing success and potential for future success during the last 12 months.
Great Britain Olympic cyclist Bryan Steel presented the athletes with a certificate and Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball player Richard Sargent hosted the evening.
Rachel Belcher of Lincolnshire Sports Partnership said: “We are delighted to have so many athletes from Bourne on LEAP this year and look forward to seeing how they progress throughout the next 12 months.
“We really hope that all 3 athletes from Bourne benefit from this.”
