Oakham’s Vale Judo Club will host a major regional training camp and competition after Easter.
The club which has members from all over Rutland and beyond is now one of the biggest judo clubs in the East Midlands and will hold the inaugural Welland Invitational Championships on April 14.
The competition is open to red, yellow and orange belts who are members of clubs anywhere in the region.
It is the first of four events Vale will host this year where low grade juniors can win points for their club within a local judo league currently being set up.
Junior and senior members of Vale Judo will officiate and spectators are welcome to show their support.
Ahead of the Welland competition, the club will hold a training camp on April 10 for juniors aged between 8 and 15 who are registered with the BJA, BJC or AJA.
Vale coach Mike Newton said: “The training camp has been designed to be a fun event where players will be able to train with juniors from other clubs.”
He added: “Vale Judo Club is grateful to Woodsoft, the club’s 2013 gold sponsor. It would not have been possible to run the events without the support provided.”
