OAKHAM men’s 1st team will hope for home advantage after a difficult opening half of the season in division one of the Leicestershire League.
Skipper Tim Davies has been forced to change his side due to injury and unavailability but after back-to-back victories, spirits are high ahead of a series of home fixtures.
Oakham returned 5-4 winners from Rothley last week where Ralph Clarke and Jack Howarth won a hat-trick of rubbers.
They then hosted one of the league’s top sides, Leicester Forest East at The Vale and pulled off a great 7-2 victory.
Davies again fielded a slightly rearranged team but he was confident it would perform well - and he was proved right with determined display.
Experience proved useful as the captain and Martin Gillam fought through every point to keep a clean sheet, while coach Ralph Clarke was partnered by up-and-coming Jack Howarth, who is now a top ten ranked junior in UK for his age. Their showed ability in all corners of the court and their strengths as volleyers and servers paid off as they too won all three rubbers.
James Henley played strongly with Warren Thomas for the first time this season and the pair pulled off a great win against their opposite numbers. The team have now won two from five.
