BOTTOM side Hopefuls rubbished their position at the foot of Stamford and District Indoor Summer League’s second tier in a week of success for the lower teams.

The trio of Maureen O’Connor, Linda Glover and Derek Watt won their second match of the season, 12-7 over Lucky Seven.

Take Five’s Barry Payne, Howard Neath and Pauline Young feared a thrashing against experienced Canaries, but instead took a convincing 18-8 victory.

The Motley Crew of Tony Barwell, Harry Jameson and Pauline Dixon continued their successful run with a 23-7 win over Eagles.

Division One Alphas, Ann and Alan Chick and Don Crawley, took three shots on the final end to beat Tarrango 12-10, while Friends Arthur Chapman, Betty Sims and Bob Oliver won a tight 11-8 match against Geriatrics.

League leaders Pick ‘n’ Mix suffered only their second defeat of the season, 4-25 against Wakes David Howarth, Anthea Wade and Russ Needle.

The Bravo trio of Sharon Bailey, Linda Glover and Howard Neath are joint leaders of the Monday league, after a 13-7 win against Lima.

Hotels Janet and Maurice Dye, with Nina Rawlins, remain third, beating Golf 13-8, and Foxtrot Anna Martin, John Cowell and Bob Oliver move fourth thanks to a 16-7 result over India. Deltas June Brennan, John Kilmartin and Terry Weaver move fifth winning 17-5 against lowly Kilo, and Juliets Jim Body, Brian and Anita Edwards move 6th, 14-8 victors over Echo.

The shock result of the week was by the Charlie trio Anthea Wade, David and Jeanette Wynne, who beat joint leaders Alpha 20-7, leaving the leagues top six teams covered by just two league points.
