MORE than 80 players, representing 20 different clubs, competed in the 2012 Toft Mixed Open with good scores returned despite awful weather.

Toft’s Margaret Dair expressed thanks to Judith and Adrian Childs and their helpers for organising the day. She said: “There was universal praise from all who took part for the condition of the course and the meal provided by the hotel.”

n TEN Toft Ladies competed over two days for the Club Championship (best gross score) and Club Classic (best net score) which were run in parallel recently.

The first day’s playing conditions were perfect with sunshine and after the first round, Cathy Lee was in the lead for the Championship after a storming total of 83 and Alison Ravenhill led the field for the Classic with a net 73.

The second day proved more of a test with strong winds but although Chris Barnes and Helen Roscoe matched Alison’s net 76, Alison had done enough to retain the Club Classic trophy on 149. Lorraine Robinson came second on 157.

Last year’s winner Mairead Scott fired a second round gross score of 90 in the battle for Club Champion Trophy, but Cathy Lee lifted the trophy with a gross score of 178 (83+95), three ahead of Mairead.

n ROY Lewis won the Toft Seniors Medal with a net 69 on a windy day at Toft.
