BOURNE Wheelers’ road team raced to their best set of results of the year to date at the weekend.

The club’s riders won three races in the fourth round of the South Lincolnshire Road Race league at Yarborough, Lincoln.

Seven-year-old brothers Alex and Dan Galpin claimed first and second respectively in the U8 category, with team-mate Alex Gammons not far behind in fifth.

Maddie Gammons and Sian Botteley had two convincing victories in the U14 and U16 girls races while among the older boys, Tim James picked up the best result, finishing third in the U14 boys. Dan Burton and Adam Botteley were just outside the top 10.

Campbell Pollock, who was suffering from illness, was the club’s lone representative in the U16 boys race and despite a winning break at the start, slipped back to eighth.

James Gelsthorpe enjoyed most success in the senior races, securing his first ever top 10 position, finishing ninth in the supporting 4th category race.

Mark Botteley flew the flag for the Wheelers in the senior race and was never far from the action. In the end however, he had to settle for 15th out of the 40 riders that started.

l ONCE again the route of the Be-Well Evening 10 league had to be shortened - this time due to roadworks - reducing the sixth round to an 8.9 mile course.

First of the 23 riders to cross the line was James Gelsthorpe with 22.34. Second was Mark Robinson in 23.12, and third Mark Botteley with 23.41.

As expected, Campbell Pollock was first of the youths to finish in 24.20, while Jemma Empson was first lady with a time of 28.06.

Jemma now moves to the top of the handicap league, despite not winning the handicap prize on the night. Damien Rutterford, won the handicap.

In the senior race, Mark Botteley, flew the flag for the club, and as James had done in the previous race, was never far from the action, but in the end had to settle for 15th place out of the 40 riders who started.
