Anglers at Rutland Water have enjoyed another run of superbly conditioned rainbows weighing up to 7lb in the last week.
Bank anglers added to the tally of quality fish with Ziggy Lesiakowski taking a personal best Rutland rainbow in the shape of a stunning 7lb 2oz catch that fell to a size 14 Bob’s Bit.
The fish gave Ziggy a few anxious moments taking him on three good fly line and backing runs, before being netted.
Another Rainbow that fell to a dry fly went to Oakham’s Roy Taylor, who took a 6lb 8oz fish from the North Arm shallows on Friday.
Boat anglers who also accounted for some big rainbows including: Mike Sargeant 6lb 15oz; Richard Cooper 6lb 1oz; Steve Crowder 6lb 2oz; Guy Miller 5lb 15½oz; Ady Naylor 5lb 9½oz, father and son team Mike and John Blazey who netted 5lb 8oz and 5lb 4oz respectively, and Warren Landridge and Malcolm March each landed rainbows of 5lb 2oz.
One or two brown trout have featured among the heavier catches with the best at 5lb 5½oz caught by Colan Bartram in Saturday’s rudder match.
Fish are still being caught in most areas of the reservoir with a noticeable shift to the main basin last weekend. Various methods are producing fish from dry fly and nymphs right down to tube flies.
l In a busy round of the Tuesday Night Boat League, anglers needed to weigh in more than 20lb for a place in the top six last week.
A total of 93 fish were caught by 15 anglers with sizeable eight fish limits recorded.
Wing’s Adi Naylor took top spot with eight fish for 25lb 11¾oz, including a 5lb 9½oz rainbow that was one of three 5lb fish caught - but not the biggest, as this honour went to league leader Richard Cooper, who netted a 6lb 1oz specimen late on.

l An amazing 167 fish were caught by 24 anglers on Saturday in the third leg of five in the mid-summer rudder match.
Sixteen anglers recorded eight fish limits with quality fish on show – many in the 3-5lb weight range.
Results: 1st Al Owen and Graham Pearson, 16 for 45lb 6½oz; 2nd Geoff Wanless and Graham Hayward, 16 for 42lb 11½oz; 3rd Mick Bennett and Ian Dalby, 16 41lb 15¼oz.
l Rutland Water hosted the first leg of a qualifier for the English National match with the second leg, at Grafham Water, a day later on Sunday.
