Bourne openers Pete Morgan and Rob Bentley smashed an incredible 222 in just 20 overs of their Rutland Division One match against Eaton Socon yesterday (May 31).

Both fell soon after reaching three figures with Morgan making 102 and Bentley exactly 100. Bourne’s innings fell away slightly, but they still posted a formidable 326 all out in just 41 overs and two balls.

Chris Budd, a wicket-keeper by trade, claimed 5-42 for Socon and also made 39 of his side’s 177. Sam Evison (4-36) bowled best for Bourne who won the match by a massive 149 runs.

Bourne have lost just once this season, but they are still some way adrift of unbeaten leaders who have won all six of their completed fixtures and are 30 points clear at the top as a result.

Oundle were their latest victims crumbling to 114 all out on the way to a nine-wicket reverse.

Nassington are currently second in the table after a four-wicket win at bottom club Medbourne. Teenage left-arm spinner Harrison Craig (3-14) led a steady Nassington bowling effort as their hosts were dismissed for 143.

And in-form Kiwi Ryan Dufy (43) scored best in a consistent batting effort which saw Nassington home with plenty to spare.

Barnack are enjoying a much better season than of late and their good form continued with a 66-run win over Wisbech. Asim Butt (55) and Arsalan Manzoor (5-31) were Barnack’s star men.

Reigning champions Peterborough Town have struggled so far this season and yesterday they went down by seven wickets at home to Stamford Town.

Howard brothers Scott (61) and Marcus (41) were the only Peterborough men to shine with the bat as they laboured to 152-7 in a match reduced to 42 overs per side.

That total was soon made to look inadequate as Andrew Hulme stroked his way ti 89 not out for Stamford. Hulme also recorded an unbeaten 89 24 hours earlier in a Hunts Division One win over Godmanchester seconds.

Town are currently in the relegation zone.
