Legs Miserables have taken over as new leaders of the Stamford Striders Winter League five-mile competition.

They now hold a 15-point advantage over previous pacesetters Mud Sweat and Tiers after the second round of the newly-created event.

The event sees 11 teams made up of Striders who each individually run five miles between the first and seventh of each month.

They are then put into a league table based on how long it took with each runner having submitted an estimate for their five miles which helped to select the teams.

Although Mark Popple of Mud, Sweat and Tiers posted the fastest time for the second successive round, the runners of Legs Miserables produced an excellent team effort.

Event organiser Ed Fancourt led them home in 10th spot with a time of 32.27 while James McCloskey was 12th in 33.24.

Steve Knight secured 17th place in 34.13 while team captain Neil Martin was 29th in 36.01 as all the Legs Miserables runners improved on their times from the first round.

Sarah Sharp smashed her opening round time by more than 18 minutes after returning 42.28 following her first effort of 60.42.

Abbie Alderson also took more than three minutes off her time by finishing in 40.09 after her opening posting of 43.27.
